Road to Hell: Hillcrest Orchards

When good intentions just don’t cut it…

Always a glutton for punishment, I decided that I wanted to do caramel apples as wedding favors for our late October wedding meaning we needed to get a hold of 80 apples in the weeks leading up to the wedding.  We easily could have just gone to the store, but instead I insisted that we pack up and head to Ellijay – the Apple Capitol of Georgia – to enjoy a lovely family day in an orchard picking apples.  Only Aiden couldn’t reach the apples in the trees.  Only the ones on the ground – the dirty, nasty, rotten apples on the  ground.  But thankfully it only took a couple of mushy apples before he didn’t care about anything apple related anymore (the same can’t be said for sticks and rocks, however).

Stick Rock

So he set his sights on climbing up and down the steepest hill in the whole damn place repeatedly which made picking apples rather difficult lest he fall and break his neck.

Slide? What slide? Let's just fall down this hill...

Needless to say, the next time I need 70+ apples (hopefully never), I think we’ll just hit Publix.  And there are many amusement parks/mountains a lot closer to our house than Ellijay.  Although for what it’s worth, I doubt many of them will have pig races if this on any level seems like something you’d enjoy.

Worth it for this picture? Maybe...

A lot of work no doubt, but the caramel apples were delicious!
